BM Beauty Mineral Blush

BM Beauty is a relatively new brand of mineralised make up, co-founded by Laura McComiskie and Kimberly Wyatt of the Pussycat Dolls, their mineralised make up range is free from bismuth oxychloride, parabens, nano particles and synthetic dyes and fragrances.

Yes, I had to google some of those words too ;)  From foundations to eyeshadow, the range is vast and all cruelty free with a stamp of approval from PETA and BUAV.

I was sent a sample of the mineral blush in colour, Velvet Dawn.  Normally, I steer clear from mineralised products.  There are a couple of things in my collection but to be honest I never use them but that didn't stop me putting this blush to the test.

I wore the blush every day for near enough a fortnight.  The first thing I noticed was how soft the formulation is, however, it wasn't as finely milled as I would have hoped, although this is not necessarily a bad thing.  The shade Velvet Dawn is a bright dusky pink with shimmer.  Not glitter, there are no chunks in this, simply a little sheen that provides the teensiest of sparkle when the light hits it.

To apply to the cheek, it appears pigmented and creates a beautiful glow to the skin.  The shimmer isn't too much to be worn through the day and retains a natural freshness that seems to come hand in hand with mineral make up products.  It doesn't feel like a powder sitting on top of your skin which I really liked as well as it feeling extremely lightweight.  However, after a couple of hours it fades quite a bit and I definitely feel the need to re-apply.

For 4g of blush, it's £8 which I think is fairly reasonable as that is quite a bit of mineral for your buck.  You can buy from here.

Face Stockholm - Blush Fire

To be honest, I don't know much about the brand FACE Stockholm but my husband picked this gorgeous blush up for me a while back on one of  his business trips.

The most I had heard of the brand in terms of it's quality was just how wonderfully pigmented the products are and this in itself intrigued me so I was pretty chuffed to try out one of their blushes.

The shade in question is called Fire.  A deep, bright orange with a golden sparkle through it that is barely visible on the skin.   I have had a look for this on the website but I think it may be part of their Pro range.  Well done Boy for tracking it down!

When I applied this the first thing I noticed, true to it's reputation, was how pigmented it was.  In fact, I had to tap it a few times to remove excess so to avoid an Aunt Sally situation.  In the end it gave me a subtle flush of orange on my cheeks that works well with a sunkissed glow and would look fabulous on darker skin tones.

I have worn it all day in the sunshine and heat and it lasted throughout.  FACE Stockholm is a brand I definitely want to explore more.  Especially their skin foundations and definitely more of the blush collection.  From a price perspective, they seem to be roughly on a par with the likes of MAC, maybe a little more expensive, I can't quite work out the rate conversions but a blush is around 20Euros.

Dream Product: NARS Blush Bronzer Highlighter Trio

I had a random free day today after my initial plans were cancelled ... so with any day that i'm at a loose end I usually end up in town spending money I don't have.

A browse in Space NK led to this amazing purchase and it almost went unnoticed until I was walking out of the door.  I spotted a little purse/clutch like package on the NARS display and a closer look had me nearly hyperventilating for this little clutch of goodies was indeed my favourite NARS products rolled into one.

NARS Laguna bronzer (my absolute holy grail of bronzers), Orgasm blush (always a fave) and Albatross highlight (utterly lush) - All 3 of these products in the one zipped compact is a dream for me.  I usually use Orgasm as my holiday blush and I rarely go a day without wearing Laguna so to have these together is ideal, Albatross is the icing on the cake that will take any daytime look to a shimmering evening look in seconds.  This is going to make packing so much easier and lighter in the make up department.

This is a limited edition product and is priced at £39, I really did think this was quite the bargain.  A blush and highlight costs around £20 from NARS and bronzer is £24 so I felt it was a pretty good deal.  I snapped it up as soon as I heard the price. I was supposed to be buying new trainers for the gym today but that can wait until next month ;)

Cheek of the Week: NEW CID i-blush

It's not often I am gifted a product to review and I end up wearing it every single day without fail.  New CID's i-blush has got me doing just that.

I-blush is a blush/highlighter duo that comes neatly packaged in a square compact with mirror and most exciting of all LED lights so you can freshen up your make up on the go day or night.

The blush is a lovely warm pink shade with hints of gold which reminds me ever so slightly of Nars Orgasm, certainly in the same shade family at least.  The highlighter is a warm golden shade that creates a gorgeous glow that doesn't overwhelm the rest of your make up.

What I like in particular about this product isn't just the fact that the shades suit me perfectly or apply softly with a satin like finish or that it lasts all day ... the bonus for me is that the highlighter is suitable for daytime use and is a space saving solution to something that is otherwise bulky to carry around in your bag.

I usually forego highlighter during the day as it usually lends itself on the shimmery side which I don't think is appropriate for daylight hours however a soft touch gives just the sheen you need to give a healthy daytime glow.  Highlighters generally also come housed in quite a large palette and the i-blush avoids this by teaming it up with the complementary universal pink blush therefore taking up less space in an already crowded make up bag.

Clinique Strawberry Fudge

Cliniques latest LE holiday collection, I have to say is pretty sweet.

Almost quite literally.

Strawberrry Fudge palette described as strawberry dipped in chocolate is super pretty with a dusky pink blush and a mixture of pinky shades for the eye including a dark chocolate berry shade for depth and contouring. The palette has a good pigment and is long lasting. The blush is particularly lovely and easy to wear giving a natural looking flush to the cheeks.
This is also a great palette to take your from day to night. Add a bit of depth with the deepest shade and create a soft pink smokey eye.

I thought pink was quite an unusual offering of colours but it works very well and I think Clinique have been really smart releasing it. At this time of year when every other cosmetic brand are showcasing shades of gold, berries and red, Clinique have provided us with a bit of variety.

Pinks for winter are so wearable, soft and pretty on the face. The palette is priced at £25 and I think it is a real winner.

The other stand out product for me is the Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Lip Colour in Strawberry Bliss. This is a gorgeously wearable shade that will probably suit most skin tones. It's just so pretty and feels smooth on the lips. The Lip Smoothie lip colour retails at £13.50.

Cheek of the Week - Accessorize Diva

New to Superdrug in the last month is Accessorize own brand of cosmetics. Instead of just concentrating purely on costume jewels and bags, the accessory brand has branched out into the world of make up.

Prices are beyond reasonable with blush priced at £5 and bronzer at £6. It seems the vast range of nail polish is very popular as they were completely sold out in store, so that left me with a choice of blush, eyeshadows and bronzer.

I decided to go for this blush in shade Diva. Diva is a shimmery dusky peach/pink shade that gives a warm glow to the cheeks and pretty for winter. Although the colour is lovely, the pigmentation is a little on the weak side. I had to layer on the blush to achieve the level of colour I wanted but I found the more I layered the more shimmery it go .... shimmer over colour rather than colour over shimmer. It just looked a little messy as opposed to a polished glow.The packaging is pretty cute, it's quite sturdy and has little gold embossed butterflies over it. I quite like that they haven't really tried to copy anyone elses packaging, they have come up with their own design that reflects the nature of the brand.

I would compare this blush to Nars Orgasm in terms of colour and shimmer although Orgasm has far better pigmentation therefore offering a little less glitter than Accessorize's offering. It is slightly warmer and more pinky than orgasm but side by side they are not too far off one another and is certainly a cheaper alternative.

You can see from my fotd that it offers quite a glow but notice the lack of pigmentation ... hardly any colour pay off but still a fresh enough daytime look.

Cheek of the Week! - Mac Grand Duo

This week's cheek was thanks to MAC, in particular their grand duos mineralize blush collection.

I feel like I am the only person who purchased 'Grand Duo' from this collection, I haven't heard or seen anyone else rave about it at all. 'Love Rocks' seems to have been the favourite but it just didn't appeal. If I am going to buy something in a collection, I try and pick out items that I don't think can be duped all that easily and certainly with Grand Duo, I don't own anything else like it.

One half is a lovely warm plum shade while the marbled side is a coppery pink that perfectly compliments the plum. I was feeling a bit pale this week and this blush gave me just enough colour to warm up my otherwise pale cheeks. It is not overly pigmented but this is a bonus as it is very frosty so it is better to build it up so you don't over do it.

What you finish with is a shimmery frost over the cheeks which some don't like but when I am pale, I am happy for a bit of shimmer to help me achieve that 'glow'.

My favourite thing about this blush is how long lasting it is. I never ever have to touch it up throughout the day which is good for a lazy girl like me.

This is probably more of an autumn/winter shade for the cheeks but seeing as we are having some Winter weather this week in Glasgow while the rest of the UK enjoys a heatwave, then it is probably quite apt.

Did anyone else like Grand Duo Mineralize blush or was it just me after all?

Topshop Make up

This week Topshop's own line of cosmetics hit the stores. There has been a lot of hype about this make up so as I was in town on Friday I thought I'd take a sneak peak.

My first thoughts on the line is that the packaging is cute and everything looks quite young and fresh in terms of shade choice, also price wise I find it very reasonable apart from the lipsticks which are priced at £8. There were many lipglosses, lip balms, and nail shades but I was only really tempted by the cream blushes and a face highlighter so came away with 3 purchases.
The packaging is pretty cute with it's polka dots and stars, I was even given a free make up bag which I thought was a nice touch.
From left to right, I picked up a cream blush in 'Neon Rose', face highligher in 'Sunbeam' and another cream blush in 'Pinch'.

Neon Rose is a bright pink with quite a peachy coral tone to it - perfect for summer. Pinch is a much darker pink which almost looks a little purple-ish before swatched. Blush is priced at a very reasonable £6 hence why I picked up 2. I really like both blushes, they have a cream to powder formulation which keeps them feeling light on the skin and easy to blend. I find the pigmentation of both very good, long lasting and also just as good on the lips as on the cheeks.

The highlighter I like on my skin with a hint of tan, any paler and it may not look so good. It is quite subtle on the skin though in comparison to my usual highlighter of choice, Mac Belightful. Still not sure if this is a product I really rate though and will need to test drive it a bit more before I make my final judgement.

I did a quick and easy FOTD with all the products today, wearing Neon Rose on the cheeks and Pinch on the lips.
It was quite difficult getting the camera to pick up these colours hence why I have posted a bit of a gaumy startled face - it just happened that this picked up the lip colour much better.So, that is my thoughts on the topshop line. Think I may even go back for some more of the blushes.

Cheek of the Week!

Getting the time to blog this week has been hard! I have been moving flat this weekend, which has been a complete nightmare ... I really don't recommend it guys! Too much stress and disorganisation!


Anyway, my cheek of the week didn't happen last week so lets pick it up again from here. This weeks cheek belongs to Bobbi Brown and it just happens to be my all time favourite blush. I even wore it on my wedding day.

It's Bobbi Brown Apricot. This is it in the old style BB packaging, I believe it now comes in a square package - man, i'm so out of date. Anyway, the shade is not quite the peachy apricot tone you may expect, it is a lot more pinky but a lovely warm pink with definite hints to it's apricot name.



This is the type of blush you can really over-do on the cheeks and come out looking like a trendy Aunt Sally ... if you can imagine such a thing?! Or you can just go for a subtle flush across the cheeks.

When all else fails this is the blush I am most likely to go to.

Things might be quiet on the blog front for the next week or so but my broadband will be installed by the end of the week so normal service will resume :)

CHEEK OF THE WEEK!

Most Monday mornings, I pick out some make up for the day ahead and more often or not this is what I stick to for the whole week. I rise so early for work (usually 5.30am) so I need to have a routine that will take 10 minutes and products that are ready and waiting for me.

My blush is the main product that will never change through the working week - I pick a colour and stick to it. However, I never wear the same shade the following week - I like to switch it up ... it just makes work make up more interesting for me (and puts my stash to good use). So that's how I came up for the idea of 'Cheek of the Week'. Every week I will showcase what colour I have been wearing why I am using it and what I think of the product.

Cheek of the Week: MAC Hello Kitty Fun & GamesYesterday marked the beginning of March ... this means we are about to hit Spring, Yay! I have been sans fake tan throughout Winter but I am preparing for it's Springtime return, so to phase it in, I have bronzed my face a little.

MAC Fun&Games from the Hello Kitty collection was a lovely and subtle choice to go with this not quite tanned but subtly sunkissed look. Its a pale peach shade that provides a sheer coverage but is easy to build up colour if you so wish. (above teamed with Nars Laguna bronzer).

It has the slightest golden shimmer through it that helps give the skin a springtime glow. This blush is really nice for pale skins and redheads but equally as gorgeous as a subtle hint of a tint of peach on darker skintones.

Wonder what I will wear for next weeks Cheek of the Week - any suggestions?

Nars - Taj Mahal

One of the perks of my job is that every Friday I only work a half day so my afternoon is usually spent in town wandering around the shops!

Today was no different and I happened to stumble into Space NK - completely by accident, don't know how I ended up in there but I did! A 'No, i'm just looking!' to the sales assistant soon turned into a 20 minute chat about how great Nars blushes are and testing out about 5 different bronzing brushes! Before I knew it I was reeling off a list of products to take to the till. Ah, so much for not spending :/

One of my purchases was a Nars blush Taj Mahal. I always swatch this colour when I see it but for some reason never bothered to purchase. It's a great summer colour with its gold shimmer but equally it's perfect for Autumn with it's vibrant shade of pumpkin orange. It is very well pigmented and a little goes a long way.


These photos do not do this colour justice at all. It is so much more vibrant in the flesh!
This shade must be gorgeous on dark skin tones and I have to be quite light handed when applying it on my pasty pale skin but it still looks great, giving a lovely warm, autumnal glow. Hopefully once I have bronzed myself again I won't need to go so light.

The Body Shop - Thank You!

Last week The Body Shop held a beauty bloggers event in London. I had been invited to this but unfortunately I had already a booked a night at the Edinburgh Festival for my husbands birthday so I couldn't attend.

After catching up with some blogs after it, I thought their new make up collection was worth a look but before I got a chance to go and have a look I was sent a bag of goodies in the post!! I was absolutely wowed by what was sent and have to say a big Thank You to The Body Shop for their generosity! They are well known for being a fantastic, ethical brand and I really feel the girls at the Body Shop are a real credit to the company, it's a lovely personal touch to still be thought of even when you have missed an event.

So on to the goods!
First up is 11, yes 11 lipsticks!! I find it hard to pick lipsticks for myself so when i tried all 11 and they all suited or just the very fact I liked them all was a real surprise! Some of the girls are absolutely lush. So far I am loving numbers 59, 60, 69 and 71. Sorry I do not have the correlating names, I should have done my research before starting this post!
I was also sent this blush in 'Warm Sunset'. It is a mix of bronzey, terracotta shades. You can use the 3 shades seperately but I have applied by just swirling them all together. I absolutely love the warm glow it gives me and it has been a staple in my make up bag this week. It did crack a little on transit but still ok to use.
Then there are these 2 eyeshadow trio's in (from left to right) sundown glow and moonlight lustre. I am yet to try them out to be honest but I love the colours so will hopefully to a little fotd with them at some point soon. Finally, we have these gorgeouse eye pencils. The colours are so bright and vibrant and just quite simply, something a little bit different than your usual browns, blacks and greys. I do love a coloured liner, I usually wear on my waterline to add a little bit of colour to an otherwise neutral eye. From left to right we have; Shimmering Steel, Brilliant Blue, Glowing Amethyst, Vibrant Emerald and Burnished Amber. They are so smooth and velvet-like to apply, I will really enjoying playing with these :)

I was also sent some bodycare items which I have been using since I received and really love so I will blog about them seperately in a future post.

I would definitely recommend the new autumn make up range from The Body Shop, the previous collection wasn't so good for me but this definitely makes me want to go back and repurchase :)

Dainty Doll - blush and contour

So, since my jelly pong pong post I decided to purchase make up from Nicola Roberts range, Dainty Doll.

I purchased the blush and contour in Blossom from ASOS. It was reduced to £6 which influenced my buy. One half is the contour - this is a taupey brown colour and the other half is the blush, an apricot shade.


I tried this out when I was minus fake tan ... I found the contour worked pretty well. It is quite light but it gives just enough colour to create definition. However, the apricot blush was just a little too light. I found it didn't really show up on my skin but it left a nice little highlight. In these photos I topped up the blush with Mac's Fun & Games and have a dusting of Nars Laguna - just can't live without bronzer i'm afraid. They are not great, looks a bit washed out with the flash.

Excuse the bad complexion in these photos .... I went for a facial at the weekend and my skin is looking much healthier!

As a contour I really like this product, as a blush it's not much use for me personally but I can imagine would be really good for someone who was happy enough embracing the pale. I'm not sure if I would repurchase from this range - it didn't bowl me over at all. Although, if it was expanded and more colours were added to the range then maybe I would change my mind as the quality isn't too bad.

More Illamasqua ... haul time!

Sorry to bore you all but I am just really excited by Illamasqua right now. It is fast becoming my favourite cosmetics brand. The day after it launched in Glasgow, I went back to purchase a few more things.

While I was there, I was assisted by the lovely Sian who is a fellow blogger! Check out her blog, she is one talented girl! It turns out that I had met Sian just over a year ago - she had tried out some products on me just before my wedding when she worked at Bobbi Brown. She is the reason i love bobbi brown creamy concealer and bobbi brown apricot blush!

So moving on to the haul ...Here we have under eye concealer, Rich Liquid Foundation and Powder Foundation. I think these are all in shade 205. This is only from memory as the shade details have rubbed off the back (only flaw so far with the packaging). I will be doing a seperate review on the Rich Foundation which is immense .... as are the powder and concealer. The powder is so smooth and as Sian described, mousse like. It glides on the skin and covers blemishes up instantly and naturally without looking caked. The Pressed Powder... wow! This is so finely milled and I literally dust it over my face as if it were fairy dust ... well bit of an exaggeration but that is how fine and soft it is. My usual powder of choice is Mac's pressed powder. Never again. Illamasqua wins this hands down. Mac is cakey in comparison.

So next up we have powder blusher in 'unrequited'. This is quite a warm pink, somewhere inbetween barbie and baby pink. Its so soft on the cheeks. A little similar to Benefit Dandelion but way nicer and much better pigmentation.

I also picked up a sheer lipgloss in 'Devine' .. i think.. again the name rubbed off (please fix this Illamasqua, i hate not knowing the names of what i'm wearing). I already have an intense gloss which I love so thought I would try a sheer this time. In its tube it is electric, almost neon pink but on the lips it is much less so, very wearable.

I loved Baptiste nailpolish so much, I just had to have another one so i picked up this bright coral/orange in 'Whack'. Again, this colour is almost neon and it just looks fabulous on your nails, perfect for Summer! I have this on my hands and tootsies just now (just one coat) and i love it!

So there we have my Illamasqua haul. I am still waiting on the Sirens collection coming to the Glasgow store so as soon as it arrives I will be there ... with bells on!!

MAC Haulage!!

This post must carry a warning!! The pics are of insanely bad quality, the result of having no camera this week and having to make do with my phone camera!

Over the past couple of weeks I have picked up a few things at Mac, both while I was in London and at home.

First up are my Mac blushes. I picked up Dollymix and Ambering Rose. Dollymix on the right is a bright candy pink and Ambering Rose is pretty much what it says on the tin, its a lovely warm Amber Rose.I even got some (crap) swatches
So far the ambering rose has become a bit of a staple for me but I think it suits an autumnul look so it might be pushed to the side to make way for more summery hues.

Next up is eyeshadows. I picked up Graphology, Beauty Marked, Mulch and Soba. Graphology is a matt dark purplish grey shadow and has great pigment. Beauty Marked is a velvet shadow and is a gorgeous colour in the palette, dark purplish red with a glitter effect throughout, I don't rate the pigmentation too much though. Another velvet shadow Mulch is a golden browny bronzy colour and Soba which is a satin is a pale golden brown. So far I have gotten good use of soba and used Mulch for the first time yesterday with All That Glitters, this is a great combo and also recommended by Hele.
Next up is another Hele recommendation. I had decided to bodyswerve the Sugarsweet MSF's until Hele mentioned that she thought I would like refined and should buy it. I did try and resist but being the weak spendaholic I am, I caved in and bought it. And the verdict ..... I love it!! I have been wearing it most days and on nights out I have been really plastering it on for that Barbie sheen effect! Thanks Hele!!Now onto my fave purchases, the lippies!! woo! (from left to right; Lollipop Loving, Impassioned, Lady Danger, Red Russian)

So from the sugarsweet collection I picked up Lollipop Loving. There is a lot of hype around this lipstick and I thought I would love it as it is a light coral colour with gold and green reflex but alas I just don't think this colour is for me. I feel like my mum when I wear it yet it looks so gorgeous on other girls.
Impassioned is from the Colour Ready collection and is described as an amped- fuschia! It certainly is amped-up, its an amazing colour and a real statement lippy. Its not for the faint hearted at all. I imagine it would look great with a tan.
This next lipstick I had wanted for an absolute age! Lady Danger - a bright coral red. I love red lips and usually wear with a clean winged liquid liner. I would wear this look dressed up or casual with leggings and a cool t-shirt, in fact I did last week and it looked great! I seem to suit orangey reds better than bluey reds. (I look like i'm doing an Elvis impersonation with my lip here, lol!!) Last lipstick is Russian Red. Originally i couldn't choose between Lady Danger and Russian Red. Having decided on the Lady Danger, a week later I had to go and pick up RR! This is more of a blue-red and is a lot deeper than the above. This would be suited to a much more formal look in my opinion. I have also been mixing it up with Lady Danger which gives a great effect too.
So there is the bulk of my mac haul. Hope you liked it!

Illamasqua ..... my new obsession!

At long last I have managed to get my hands on some Illamasqua products! I have got myself 2 blushes, 2 eyeshadows, a medium liner pencil and an intense lipgloss. Now I must apologies in advance, I tried my hardest to get good swatch photos but I failed ... again! I just can never get the lighting right!

Firstly, as awkward as they can be in the make up bag, I actually really like the shape of the packaging simply because its a little bit different to other make up brands. Admittedly though it is not the most practical and found I had to use a bigger make up bag to fit the ergonomically challenged blushes in!

These are the 2 blushes. One is a cream blusher the other a powder blusher. The powder blusher on the left is called 'Excite'. Online this looks like a perfect bright coral colour but in real life it is more of a dramatic matte peachy orange colour ... it is almost electric it is so bright and this photo really does not do it justice. It is quite a scary thought to think about wearing this on the cheeks but with a light hand it gives just enough of the colour to give a lovely glow to the skin. This is now out of stock on the online store.

The cream blusher is called 'Lies'. Online it looks like a baby pink, in real life it is pretty similar but warmer than i expected. The consistency is very creamy and almost a little too wet but this actually makes it really easy to apply. I did find I had to layer this to get any kind of colour pay off. It is lovely though and gives a lovely glowy sheen to the face. Rather than use this as a blush I think I will be using this as a highlight or combined with another more pigmented pink blush, using this to help illuminate the face.
On to the eyeshadows. On the left we have 'Trollop' .... love the name! Online this looks like a very pale peach and looks like it would be a nice base colour but in real life I would have described it as a light orange. Not as neutral as I expected it to be. At first, i did wonder how I would use it but have actually found myself reaching for it more often than I thought. I wear this with a neutral eye, I sometimes layer a beige or browny colour over it or combine it with bronzey colours. Either way, it really helps the colour of my eyes to really pop! Orange is opposite blue on the colourwheel so I guess by using it alongside it will intensify the blue. Yay for me!

On the right we have 'Immortal' which looks like a grey-ish white online but is more of a true white in reality. I only have one white eyeshadow which is a rimmel colour... and it is no good so I was on the lookout for another. The Illamasqua one is great, pigmentation is fab and great for highlight or the inner corners of the eye to help illuminate. Both these colours are matte shadows.
Next, we have the intense lipgloss in 'Follow'. Online this looks like a bright electric fuschia but in real life it looks ruby red. However, when on the lips its more a bright pinky red. Either way i love it. I love a dramatic look for night time and this gloss certainly helps achieve this. This gloss is perfect over a lippie or on its own as the colour is so intense and pigmented ... and it lasts ages! It feels lovely and creamy on the lips almost as if it moisturises at the same time. It is glossy without being sticky which is great on a windy day ... can't stand it when my hair sticks to my gloss ..eurgh!
Lastly, we have the medium pencil eyeliner in 'Erratic' ... basically black. This has now replaced Urban Decay 24/7 liner in zero for me. Where UD is soft and creamy, the medium pencil has the same attributes and colour pay off but with more control when using the pencil. I sometimes find things get a little messy with UD 24/7, not so with the medium pencil.

So there you have my Illamasqua haul ... I am hoping there will be many more to come as it will be at a store near me very soon! Whoop Whoop!! Next on my list will be the Rich foundation, more of the blushes and glosses - the colours just look amazing .... and also some of the nail colours, after seeing how gorgeous Mizzworthys nails looked at the Body Shop event ... i'm sold!
